Anne-Marie Pochat was voted by the members and visitors of Universe Spirit as our Visual Artist for the Summer quarter 2006
Drawing on a solid artistic and scientific educational background, Anne-Marie was actively involved in the arts and science research think tank known as GLACS, which belongs to the prestigious College de France, from 1988 until 1991.
Until and including 1997, a major part of her works was focused on the realm of the infinitesimally minute. Her meeting with Jean Pierre Luminet (astrophysicist Observatoire de Paris) , allowed her to deepen and extend her research about the universe and its theories. Dreaming the universe is the result of her investigations, each work is like a snapshot of beyond our dimension vision.
Besides her many exhibitions both in Paris and in different French counties since 1978, her double major has allowed this artist to produce important pieces of work revolving around scientific areas of interest, including:
‘Origins of Life’-a science and art exhibition in Paris -1992,
‘ Thesee and the Ariana’s thread’- A glass and metal tower about 200 inches- for the Biotechnology and Plant Institute in Gif sur Yvette, France - 1994,
‘Aquacosmos and the Heart of the Stars’ -Saint Denis, Reunion Island - 2001,
‘Sundial’ for Verrieres le Buisson, France - 2002,
“Through her power of artistic suggestion, Anne-Marie’s artwork evokes the infinitesimal in the heart of all matter, the curvatures of the universe, and the paradoxes of space and time of a crumpled universe.
In the final analysis, the canvases produced by the artist pose a quizzically nagging question: How much do we really know about our own conscience or even about the matter which makes up our world? Art and the sublimination of our intuition might well provide us with one of the keys to unravel the mystery to this age old enigma“
